Asociacion Cojolya was founded in 1996 by Candis Krummel and Antonio Ramirez Sosof in the aftermath of Guatemala's civil war, when weavers in Santiago Atitlan faced devalued prices for handmade cloth. The association trains and pays Tz'utujil women directly for backstrap-loom weaving, connecting their textiles to buyers abroad through fair-trade principles.
