Familia Zaragoza

Puerto Iguazú, Misiones, Argentina

Founded when Carla Zaragoza relocated to Misiones in 2008 with no contacts and no plan beyond starting over, the family business that now bears her name smokes its yerba mate over wood fires for up to eighteen hours, then lets it mature for as long as two years using the traditional barbacuá method. Her sons Damian and Santiago run the Puerto Iguazú storefront today and ship the slow-cured yerba nationwide, the company named for their mother in tribute to the years she spent building it alone.
