Ganso Mori Karashi Renkon

Kumamoto City

Karashi renkon, lotus root stuffed with mustard-miso paste and fried in a turmeric batter, traces its origin to 1632, when this shop's ancestor Heigoro is said to have presented the dish to feudal lord Hosokawa Tadatoshi. Mori still fills each root by the traditional hand method and sells it fresh from stores around the city as well as by mail order.
