Katundu Likoma
Likoma Island, Lake Malawi, Malawi
Katundu Likoma is an interior-design workshop on Likoma Island where a team of about thirty artisans, most of them women, turn tumbled recycled glass, clay beads and repurposed copper into chandeliers, pendant lights and hand-beaded linen textiles. Founded and run by Lisa Njakale and Philli Mwase, the workshop ties its output directly to the lake's materials and to steady employment for its island-based makers.
