Kihachijo Meyu Kobo

Nakanogo, Hachijojima

Meyu Kobo has dyed and hand-woven Kihachijo silk in the Nakanogo district for around 145 years, drawing its yellows from kariyasu grass and its browns and blacks from island tree bark. The workshop sells kimono cloth alongside smaller pieces like scarves and card cases, and remains the island's sole dyeing-and-weaving house for the craft.
