Kino Sandals
Corner of Greene & Fitzpatrick Streets, Old Town
Cuban immigrant Roberto 'Kino' Lopez opened this sandal workshop in 1965 with $3,000 in savings and a $7,000 loan, cutting and stitching leather soles by hand at 105 Whitehead Street before the factory moved to its current corner in 1976. Lopez's children Robert, Ana, and Christina have run the operation for three decades, still producing every pair on-site in Key West rather than overseas.
