Ichikawa Daimon, Ichikawamisato, Yamanashi, Japan

Onao has worked washi from the thousand-year-old Ichikawa Daimon papermaking district since 1960, moving from hand production into machine-made shoji paper before incorporating as its present company in 1974. Beyond traditional sliding-door paper, it developed the SIWA line with designer Naoto Fukasawa and keeps an all-paper tea room, Jokuan, at its Yamanashi headquarters.
