Sansuido carves and sells Kamakura-bori, the lacquered relief woodwork native to this city, working in a technique passed down since the Kamakura period roughly 700 years ago. Its trays, bowls, chopsticks and tea implements are cut from katsura or magnolia wood, then coated in layered urushi lacquer by hand.
