Amman Route — Downtown Trades and Jabal Studios
Read the geography first
Amman is best shopped as a movement between commercial layers: downtown trades first, then the studios and social-enterprise showrooms of the hills. The route works when each stop clarifies who made the object, who edited it and how it reached the capital.
Amman must be routed by hills and confirmed addresses, not by the reassuring proximity of map pins. Jabal Amman can hold a coherent morning; Lweibdeh, downtown and destination showrooms need deliberate transfers.
Choose the first two stops because they teach different things, not because they are the closest names on the map. Leave one open interval for the neighbourhood itself.
Morning — Jabal Amman
Begin at Turquoise Mountain Showroom on Fawzi Al-Maalouf Street. Use the visit to learn material and workshop vocabulary before buying elsewhere. Continue by taxi or a short hill walk to Wild Jordan Nature Shop, where the product story is connected to reserve-community enterprises.
Add Limited Addition for paper goods and Jobedu for local graphic design if their current branches are confirmed. Do not route by old social posts; both brands can change retail points.
Midday — Downtown and the first hills
Move toward downtown for market context, then climb or take a taxi to Jabal Al Lweibdeh. Jordan Craft Center provides a broad view of Jordanian handicrafts near the district's galleries and bookshops. Browse to learn categories; save major purchases for the producer or program that gives the clearest provenance.
Afternoon — Jordan River Designs destination visit
Take a taxi to Jordan River Designs only after confirming the current map pin on the foundation’s official listing, which now gives Masoud Ben Saad Street rather than the older Abdoun description. Allocate an hour. Compare weaving, embroidery and basketry by named programme and technique, and retain maker and care information.
Optional second stop — embroidery
Visit SEP only after confirming its current Amman showroom and whether an appointment is needed. Its work deserves unhurried attention because the artist attribution is central to the purchase.
Route law: Amman’s hills and traffic make “nearby” unreliable. Group Jabal Amman stops, verify all moving showrooms, and treat the final destination as a separate taxi journey.
Build the day to the time available
Ninety minutes: pair Turquoise Mountain Showroom and Wild Jordan Nature Shop, then stay in their surrounding streets. Two attentive conversations are enough to change the rest of the trip.

Begin at Turquoise Mountain Showroom, whose official address remains 1 Fawzi Al-Maalouf Street in Jabal Amman. Its published hours currently run Saturday to Thursday, making Friday a poor day for this route. Use the first stop to learn the vocabulary of carving, inlay, metalwork and made-to-order pieces before moving elsewhere.
Continue to Wild Jordan Nature Shop for products tied to reserve enterprises. The value of pairing these doors is conceptual as well as geographic: one presents a Levant craft-development programme; the other connects retail revenue to conservation and local livelihoods. Do not flatten them into the same “ethical craft” category.
Treat downtown and Lweibdeh as an optional second chapter
Traffic and hills can make a short map distance consume an hour. Move toward Jordan Craft Center only if its current door and hours have been confirmed. Add Limited Addition or Jobedu when the address is current, but do not let a branch hunt displace the main craft visits.
Jordan River Designs is a destination, not an Abdoun assumption
The foundation's current official listing gives Masoud Ben Saad Street, Amman, rather than the older Abdoun description carried by this route. Confirm the exact map pin directly before departure, then allow a full hour at Jordan River Designs. Compare Bani Hamida weaving, Al Karma embroidery and Wadi Al Rayan basketry as distinct programmes, not one house style.
Visit SEP only with a current showroom confirmation or appointment. Artist attribution and the time needed to understand the stitching make it unsuitable as a hurried add-on.
A realistic day has a stopping rule
Two serious showrooms and one contemporary design stop are enough. Amman's most useful purchases often involve labels, maker stories and care questions that cannot be rushed. Keep a taxi plan for the final destination and avoid scheduling a major textile decision immediately before dinner or an airport transfer.
End with a short record of the day: maker, programme, material, care and the role each Amman door played. The route has succeeded when the connections are clearer than the shopping bags.
