Fish Place on Texas Avenue in La Marque began as a seafood market and, the house says, has cooked as a restaurant for more than twenty-five years. The room is now a bar-and-grill with lunch specials and a DJ on Thursday and Friday nights.

After twenty-six years with the Houston Police Department, the Kelley family opened Country Cookin' following a 1983 retirement. The La Marque room on the Gulf Freeway still plates chicken-fried steak, a one-pound Super K burger, biscuits and gravy.
