Stockholm sportswear label founded in 1996 by Johan Lindeberg, a former Diesel marketing director, who reworked golf apparel with slim cuts and bold color blocking; launched simultaneously in Stockholm and New York.
Best for Scandinavian polos, slim fit
J.Lindeberg was founded in Stockholm in 1996 by Johan Lindeberg, who had just resigned as marketing director of the Italian denim brand Diesel. According to the brand's own account, the idea took shape on a motorcycle trip through southern France with a golf bag in tow, after which Lindeberg concluded that golf apparel needed a genuine overhaul. The label launched simultaneously in Stockholm and New York in the summer of 1996, with Lindeberg as creative director leading a design team headed by Roland Hjort, recruited from H&M. Its first collection, billed as '21st Century Lifestyle,' was shown in New York during Fall/Winter 1997 fashion week, mixing menswear and golf clothing rather than treating them as separate categories. The brand became known for slim-fit cuts and bold color blocking at a time when golf apparel still leaned toward traditional country-club silhouettes. J.Lindeberg is today sold in more than 35 countries.
Judits specialises in carefully selected second-hand designer fashion, including Scandinavian and international labels. The Stockholm shop rewards patient browsing because individual sizes and one-off pieces cannot be replenished predictably.
Best for Curated vintage designer fashion and vintage Swedish design
& Other Stories sells womenswear, shoes, bags and beauty developed across several design ateliers within the H&M group. The broad creative-studio story does not replace the need for a specific door.
Swedish independent label known for custom-developed fabrics, understated seasonal collections and the WORK SHOP collaboration and upcycling arm. The design language relies on subtle detailing rather than obvious branding.
Best for Scandi vintage polos; Upcycled garments; effortlessly cool Swedish essentials
Elin Kling and Karl Lindman's Stockholm house, founded 2014 — the T-Lock bag, scarf jackets and pared-back wardrobe staples with a French sensibility.
Best for Scandinavian-French effortless style.
Totême was founded in Stockholm in 2014 by Elin Kling — the fashion journalist and one of the first true style bloggers — and her husband Karl Lindman, an art director trained on New York magazines. The premise was editorial: build the wardrobe Kling kept recommending and could never quite find — Scandinavian restraint warmed by French ease, pieces designed to recur, not to trend.
The signatures accumulated with unusual discipline: the scarf jacket, its collar draping into a built-in muffler, became the house's photograph; the T-Lock bag put a brass monogram on architectural leather; barrel-leg denim, sculptural knits and the embroidered-monogram tees round out what the founders frankly call a system rather than collections.
Stockholm headquarters, flagships from Mercer Street to London, and a customer who buys in multiples: Totême scaled the quiet way, profitably and without spectacle. It is Scandinavia's cleanest export since functional furniture — the wardrobe as well-designed object, restocked like one.
