Made-to-measure dishdashas are the focus at Al Syed Tailors, a Kuwait tailoring business established in 1972. Its work follows Gulf silhouettes, giving the garment's cut a different purpose from European jacket tailoring. Veneto's Belvest makes hand-finished jackets, with travel blazers forming part of a business founded in 1964. In Naples, Ciardi Napoli uses a bias-cut chest canvas in bespoke suits, continuing Renato Ciardi's workshop through his sons.
Al Syed Tailors has cut made-to-measure dishdashas in Kuwait City since 1972, training staff in the distinct silhouettes worn in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. The shop kept working through the Gulf War and other disruptions, and now runs five branches across the city under the same family ownership.
Best for Made-to-measure dishdasha and thobe tailoring
Melbourne menswear label founded in 1989 by Gary Zecevic, opening its first store in South Yarra; remains family-owned, focused on tailored-casual pieces in Italian wools and cotton jersey.
Best for Australian smart casual
Calibre is a Melbourne-founded menswear label started in 1989 by Gary Zecevic, who opened the brand's first store in South Yarra. The label's focus from the outset was tailored-casual menswear - blending classic tailoring construction with a slimmer, more casual silhouette, using materials such as Italian wool and cotton jersey. Zecevic has described the Calibre name as a nod to his standard for quality and fit. The company remains family-owned and Melbourne-based, with in-house design. Calibre now sells through its own stores as well as multi-brand retailers such as David Jones, and operates shop locations in centres including Burnside Village (Adelaide) and Emporium Melbourne.
Ho Chi Minh City bespoke tailoring house founded in 1948 by Ly Minh, who held Vietnam's state-conferred 'Tailoring Artist' title; now family-run into its third generation from District 1, with a second office in Hanoi, known for hand-stitched construction and clients including General Vo Nguyen Giap.
Best for Bespoke tailoring from a multigeneration Saigon house since 1948
Cao Minh Tailor was founded in Saigon in 1948 by Ly Minh, who was later awarded Vietnam's state-conferred 'Tailoring Artist' title by the State Council in recognition of his craft. The house has stayed in family hands since, now run by the second and third generations, and is counted among the oldest continuously operating bespoke tailors in Vietnam.
The business became a private enterprise in 1991, a formal status change during Vietnam's post-reform economic opening (Đổi Mới), and went on to become the first Vietnamese tailoring house to export high-end suits to Japan, a market known for exacting quality control. Its client list has included senior Vietnamese historical and political figures, among them General Võ Nguyên Giáp, commander of Vietnam's armed forces.
Cao Minh's reputation rests on hand-stitched construction rather than machine assembly — canvassing, padding and finishing done by hand in the traditional bespoke method. The main house operates from Hai Bà Trưng Street in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, with a second office in Hanoi.
Naples tailoring house founded in 1954 by Renato Ciardi after an eight-year apprenticeship under tailor Luigi Blasi; now run by his sons Enzo and Roberto, known for a bias-cut chest canvas in their bespoke suits.
Best for Handmade Shirts
Sartoria Ciardi was opened in Naples in 1954 by Renato Ciardi. His own father had been a well-known barber in the city, but as a left-handed man Renato was steered away from that trade in 1930s Naples and instead apprenticed for eight years under Luigi Blasi, a prominent Neapolitan tailor of the period, before setting up on his own. Renato's sons, Enzo and Roberto, joined the workshop in their late teens and have run the atelier together since. Sartoria Ciardi's suits follow the broad conventions of Neapolitan tailoring but are noted by specialist menswear writers for a distinctive technique of cutting the chest canvas on the bias - giving it more stretch and comfort than the straight-grain cut many other Neapolitan houses use. The house is well documented in bespoke-tailoring press, including a full commissioned-suit review by menswear writer Simon Crompton's Permanent Style.
Toronto-founded (1985) menswear-and-womenswear brand later owned by Ralph Lauren (1999-2021); sold to private-equity firm Regent LP in 2021. Known for a Fifth Avenue New York flagship among its multi-country store network.
Best for Modern essentials, tailored
Club Monaco was founded in Toronto in 1985 by Joe Mimran and Alfred Sung, building a reputation for pared-back, minimalist basics - cotton knits, tailored trousers, cashmere - at a step below full luxury pricing. Ralph Lauren Corporation acquired the brand in 1999 and expanded it into the United States, Europe and Asia, opening a flagship on Fifth Avenue in New York that for years combined clothing with a Strand Books outpost and a cafe. In May 2021, Ralph Lauren sold Club Monaco to Los Angeles private-equity firm Regent LP; the brand brought on a new creative director in September 2022 as part of a relaunch focused on returning to its original quality-and-simplicity positioning. Club Monaco now operates as a standalone company under Regent, with stores across North America and licensed operations elsewhere.
Menswear house founded in Mantua in the 1930s by Alfredo Corneliani, initially producing raincoats and outerwear. His sons Claudio and Carlalberto formalized it as Corneliani S.p.A. in 1958; tailoring is still produced in Mantua, and Investcorp acquired a majority stake in 2016.
Best for Business tailoring and refined outerwear.
Corneliani began in Mantua in the 1930s, when Alfredo Corneliani produced raincoats and outerwear; his sons Claudio and Carlalberto formalized the company in 1958 and built it into one of the great engines of Italian menswear — a full-cycle manufacture where cloth arrives at one end of the Mantua plant and finished tailoring leaves the other.
The house made its name as much in others' names as its own: for decades Corneliani's factories produced suiting for the most prestigious labels in fashion, an open secret that certified the quality better than any campaign. Under its own label the register is classical Italian — with a su misura made-to-measure service through the flagships — structured but supple jackets, luxurious outerwear honoring the raincoat origins, ID Jacket innovations with removable warmth.
Investcorp took a majority stake in 2016, and restructuring years followed with Italian state support — but production never left Mantua, Lombardy — unbroken since the post-war rebuild. Corneliani remains what it has always been: the tailoring behind the tailoring, now signing its own work.
D’Avenza is a tailoring house founded in 1957 in the Tuscan town of Carrara. It keeps its Italian showroom in the same town, at Viale XX Settembre 177b.
Parisian menswear house founded 1973, rebranded simply Fursac under the SMCP group — sharp French tailoring, suits and smart-casual at accessible-luxury prices.
Best for Sharp Parisian tailoring without couture prices.
Marche shoemaker founded 1968 by Mario Giannini in Montegranaro, first as 'Ducale', renamed Doucal's in 1973 after his study of the English shoe trade; hand-stitched Italian-leather men's shoes, about 100 steps per pair.
Best for Flexible loafers and sartorial footwear.
Doucal's began in 1968 as a small shoemaking workshop in Montegranaro, in Italy's Marche region, founded by Mario Giannini under the name 'Ducale.' In 1973 the artisan workshop was reorganized into the Doucal's company, with an Anglicized name inspired by Giannini's time studying the English shoe industry in Northampton. The company still manufactures at its original Montegranaro site, in a district regarded as a center of Italian handcrafted footwear. Each pair is built by hand from Italian-tanned leather through roughly 100 individual production steps, a process that can take up to two months per pair. Giannini's sons, Gianni and Jerry, later joined the business.
Lakeside outerwear laboratory since 1948 — laminar shells and tailored down from Lago Maggiore.
Best for Refined down jackets and technical tailoring.
Herno’s official catalogue shows outerwear as part of a broader clothing system for women and men, with children also represented. Raincoats and coats sit beside knitwear and jackets while blazers and trousers are listed with skirts and dresses. Shirts appear alongside polo shirts. The product names make the material range specific. They include a cotton-and-cashmere double piqué polo shirt and a wool-cloth coat with a pinstripe pattern. A technical-fabric pinstripe blazer appears beside pinstriped trousers in technical fabric. The catalogue also names a dress in crispy cotton and trousers in cotton-effect stretch fabric. The page identifies CITY LAYERS FW26 WOMEN as a collection and carries Herno x Phi Beach as a named collaboration. Beyond the catalogue, it features a conversation on contemporary art with Claudio Marenzi, identified there as Herno President. These details support a reading of Herno that goes beyond down jackets alone. The current assortment moves between natural fibres and stretch cloth, alongside technical fabric. Pinstriped tailoring appears beside rainwear and casual pieces. The collection and collaboration give the product presentation further context, while Claudio Marenzi anchors the company voice.
French fashion brand founded 1987 in La Séguinière by Gérard Le Goff with stylist Sonia Provost, launched as children's/teen clothing with adult-inspired styling. Added womenswear in 1999 and menswear in 2003; now owned by LBO France's White Knight fund.
Best for French family fashion, leather jackets and casual tailoring
IKKS was founded in 1987 in La Séguinière, in the Pays de la Loire region of western France, by Gérard Le Goff, working with stylist Sonia Provost. The brand launched as a children's and teenage clothing line distinguished by borrowing adult fashion codes — darker colors and more structured silhouettes than typical kidswear of the period. That styling, described by French fashion press as carrying a rock-inflected edge, proved appealing beyond its original age bracket, and IKKS expanded into womenswear in 1999 and menswear in 2003, becoming a full family-wardrobe brand spanning three generations under one label. IKKS spent a period as part of Groupe Zannier, one of France's larger apparel manufacturing and licensing groups, before being sold in July 2015 to the White Knight fund managed by private equity firm LBO France. The brand remains positioned in the French mid-market, distinguished from mass fast fashion by design continuity traced back to Le Goff and Provost's original children's-line aesthetic, now applied across adult ready-to-wear collections as well.
Neapolitan tailoring house that began as a fabric shop opened by Enrico Isaia in the 1920s; in 1957 brothers Enrico, Rosario and Corrado Isaia moved production to Casalnuovo di Napoli, a town where roughly half the population worked as tailors. Garments still carry the brand's signature red-coral lapel pin.
Best for Soft-shouldered suits and Neapolitan color.
Isaia began in the 1920s as Enrico Isaia's fabric shop serving Naples' bespoke tailors, and in 1957 the brothers Enrico, Rosario and Corrado moved production to Casalnuovo di Napoli — a town where, famously, roughly half the population worked as tailors. The house industrialized Neapolitan tailoring without denaturing it: spalla camicia shirt-shoulders, sweeping lapels, jackets soft as knitwear but cut with Mediterranean swagger.
The red coral lapel pin, a Neapolitan good-luck charm, became the brand's signature and its thesis — southern Italian exuberance worn proudly where sober Milan would abstain. Cloths run bold: mohair sheens, impossible blues, checks that require confidence. Gianluca Isaia, third generation, fronts the house with exactly the persona the clothes promise.
Flagships from Madison Avenue to Milan carry the full lifestyle now — the U.S., Japan, China and the Gulf its strongest rooms abroad — sartoria at the core, sneakers and swim at the edges. Isaia sells the Neapolitan argument entire: tailoring is not a uniform, it's a mood, and the mood is festive.
Tailoring bullfighters' trajes de luces since 1978 from two Madrid workshops near Puerta del Sol and in Las Rozas, Justo Algaba has dressed matadors including Curro Romero and Morante de la Puebla and keeps an in-house museum of roughly 100 historic suits.
Best for Trajes de luces and historic bullfighting tailoring
Justo Algaba has been tailoring trajes de luces - the elaborately embroidered suits worn by bullfighters - since 1978, out of two Madrid workshops, one near Puerta del Sol and a second in Las Rozas. The client list runs through some of the bullring's most recognized names, including Curro Romero, Juan José Padilla and Morante de la Puebla, work that has built the house's reputation within the taurine world specifically rather than fashion generally. That specialism has carried outward into adjacent costume work: Algaba has made ecclesiastical vestments, opera wardrobe and formal wedding wear, dressed the tenor Plácido Domingo, and produced costumes for film and stage productions including Pedro Almodóvar's Hable con ella, with pieces from the workshop having appeared in productions as far afield as London and Sydney. The Madrid workshop also houses a private museum of roughly 100 historic and avant-garde trajes de luces, letting visitors see the embroidery and construction up close rather than only on a matador in the ring. Between the two sastrerías, the museum, and the sideline into opera and film costume, Justo Algaba reads less as a single tailor shop than as a working archive of a very specific Spanish craft, still taking commissions from the same world it started in.
Liberty Tailors was established in 1952 by Khalil Ahmed Parbhoo, known as Solly, starting in a small Salisbury storefront and now run as a third-generation family business at 33 Carsberg Ave, New Alex Park, Harare. In 2013 the tailors altered suits at State House for a wedding in President Mugabe's family.
London Selección has sold bespoke and ready-to-wear menswear from Calle Méndez Núñez in central Seville since 1973, carrying luxury tailoring names like Canali and Loro Piana alongside its own made-to-measure service. Best for Bespoke tailoring, ceremony suits, menswear
Biella menswear label founded 1970 by Luciano Barbera, from the family behind the Carlo Barbera wool mill; sold in 2014, then repurchased by the family in 2019.
Best for Soft tailoring, luxury
Luciano Barbera grew out of the Carlo Barbera wool mill in Biella, Italy, which Luciano's father Carlo took full control of in 1949. Luciano Barbera gained early visibility in 1962 when photographer Ugo Mulas shot him for Vogue wearing a suit cut from the family's own fabric; according to brand lore, Louis Boston retailer Murray Pearlstein saw the look during a mill visit and encouraged Luciano to launch his own collection, which he did in 1970. Ownership shifted over the following decades: in 2010 the family sold a controlling stake in the Carlo Barbera mill to the Neapolitan tailoring house Kiton, and by 2014 had also let go of the Luciano Barbera apparel brand itself. The family returned to the label in 2019, repurchasing it and reestablishing it as a family business, with Luciano as part-owner, his daughter Carola Barbera as creative director and managing partner, and his son Lodovico Barbera as global brand ambassador.

British menswear brand founded 1975—contemporary tailored clothing in knitwear, outerwear, shirting, blazers, footwear, and accessories with sharp working-class styling.
Best for Mod tailoring
Peter Werth founded his London menswear label in 1975 in Islington, north London. The brand's early inspiration drew from sharper, more formal styling traditions rooted in working-class 1970s culture. Collections evolved from contemporary knitwear through outerwear, shirting, blazers, and fine jerseywear into shoes and accessories—building a comprehensive wardrobe. The brand emphasizes 'high quality British contemporary menswear' with classic wardrobe essentials and seasonal collections. Product categories span long and short-sleeved shirts, polo shirts and t-shirts, knitwear (sweatshirts and jumpers), coats and jackets, footwear (formal shoes, casual shoes, boots, loafers, brogues, sandals), and accessories (bags, wallets, belts, hats, scarves, gloves). Peter Werth navigated significant challenges during the 2008 financial crisis, entering administration in 2011 and placing 70 jobs at risk before JD Sports acquired the brand, intellectual property, and stock. The acquisition saved 68 jobs at Peter Werth concessions. The brand relaunched with fresh direction and new website presence in October 2019, re-establishing itself after a period of market absence. The brand continues to offer flexible payment methods and regular sales alongside core collections.

Best for Custom suiting with an extensive in-house fabric library
Wellington-region menswear maker with roots to 1946, when Alex Harrison bought Bert Churchill's Vivian Street tailoring business. The Rembrandt suit brand launched in 1952; renamed Rembrandt Suits Ltd in 1953, now based in Lower Hutt.
Best for New Zealand suiting and made-to-measure service
Rembrandt's roots trace to 1946, when Alex Harrison, a skilled tailoring cutter, bought an existing tailoring business on Vivian Street in Wellington that had belonged to Bert Churchill, and registered it as a new company at the start of that year. In 1952, staff brainstorming a name for a new suit line settled on 'Rembrandt,' chosen to evoke craftsmanship and artistry — the name reportedly narrowly beat out 'Michelangelo' as a finalist. The following year, in 1953, the company was formally renamed Rembrandt Suits Ltd, the name it has carried since. At a time when bespoke tailoring in New Zealand typically required multiple in-person fittings, Rembrandt aimed to make well-fitting suits more broadly accessible, building garments with details such as unfinished cuffs and adjustable seams that allowed a suit to be refined to an individual customer without a full custom-tailoring process. Production Manager Pat Lyford later played a significant role in modernizing the company's manufacturing, traveling to research updated methods and equipment and helping build the operational systems behind the brand's growth. Rembrandt is today headquartered in Lower Hutt, near Wellington, where its design studio, made-to-measure factory, administration and warehousing are all based, continuing a New Zealand tailoring lineage that now spans nearly eight decades.

Best for Australian tailored clothing
Joe Saba, an Australian designer of Lebanese descent born in 1940, opened his first shop at 287 Flinders Lane in Melbourne in 1965. He launched a denim label called Staggers in 1969, and in 1974 established the Saba label itself, which expanded to menswear and womenswear and grew to as many as 17 stores. In the 1980s, Saba's stores also sold Japanese avant-garde designers Rei Kawakubo and Yohji Yamamoto in the Australian market. Joe Saba won the Australian Fashion Menswear Award in 1996. Neapolitan bespoke tailoring house founded by Renato Ciardi, who apprenticed under Maestro Angelo Blasi from the late 1940s and opened his first atelier on Via Toledo in 1955 before moving to Via Fiorelli 12. Now run by his sons Enzo and Roberto (Vincenzo), continuing the house's soft-shouldered Neapolitan silhouette.
Best for Neapolitan bespoke
Sartoria Ciardi is a bespoke tailoring house in Naples founded by Renato Ciardi, born in 1934, who began his apprenticeship under Maestro Angelo Blasi in the late 1940s. Ciardi opened his first atelier on Via Toledo in 1955 before later relocating to Via Fiorelli 12, where the house remains based. Renato Ciardi became one of the best-known figures in postwar Neapolitan tailoring, developing a soft-shouldered, lightly structured jacket construction associated with the broader Neapolitan tailoring tradition, distinct from the more padded, structured silhouettes of English or Milanese tailoring. After his death, the sartoria passed to his sons, referred to in different sources as Enzo and Roberto, or Roberto and Vincenzo; one son serves as the house's cutter, a deliberate choice intended to keep a single, consistent hand and silhouette on every garment produced rather than dividing cutting duties among multiple tailors. The house continues to produce fully bespoke jackets, suits and coats using traditional hand construction methods, and is regularly cited in menswear and tailoring press, including detailed reviews from outlets such as Permanent Style, as one of the reference houses for the Neapolitan style associated with the city's postwar tailoring lineage.

Best for Bespoke shirts, tailoring
Sartoria Tofani was founded in 1954 by Aristide Tofani, who trained under Vincenzo Attolini - a formative figure in the modern Neapolitan tailoring style - before opening his own atelier in Naples. Every garment is described as fully handmade in Naples following traditional Neapolitan cutting and sewing methods. The atelier is located at Via Monte di Dio 3c, within Naples's Chiaia quarter, the historic tailoring district.
Founded in 1978 in the Limousin region, Smuggler is a French tailoring house selling from boutiques in Paris and Limoges; after its longtime manufacturing partner, France Confection, went into liquidation in 2020, the brand's suits are now produced across workshops throughout Europe.
Best for French-made suiting crafted in Limoges
Smuggler was founded in 1978 as a menswear ready-to-wear chain in France's Limousin region and was taken over by the company Orphée Longchamp in 1985. Its modern identity as a Made in France specialist dates to around 2000, when Gilles Attaf and Serge Bonnefont partnered the brand with the France Confection workshops in Limoges to produce tailored suits at accessible prices; in December 2011 Smuggler earned the Origine France Garantie label for its suits, jackets, trousers and waistcoats, and it went on to dress the organizing committee of Euro 2016. The brand hit financial trouble in the mid-2010s: its parent company entered receivership in January 2017 and liquidation in March 2018, when the Paris-based Molitor group acquired Smuggler. Its Limoges manufacturing partner, France Confection, then entered its own receivership in January 2020 and liquidation that March, before being taken over by Ludovic and Corinne Gaudic, who kept its roughly 85 employees on. Today Smuggler operates as an active tailoring house selling custom and ready-to-wear suits, jackets and accessories from boutiques in Paris (rue de Courcelles) and Limoges, sourcing materials and workshops across Europe rather than exclusively in France, a shift from its earlier all-France manufacturing model.

From 1999 to 2012 Strellson held the European license for Tommy Hilfiger Tailored Clothing, and in 2003 it launched its Swiss Cross jacket line. In 2005, Strellson AG merged with Windsor GmbH to form the Holy Fashion Group. The company remains Switzerland's largest menswear manufacturer, based in Kreuzlingen.

Best for Suits, Casualwear
Vistula's roots go back to 1948, when Krakowskie Zaklady Przemyslu Odziezowego was established under Poland's post-war state industrial system. The company began export production in 1961, and in 1966 discontinued women's clothing lines in favor of menswear. The Vistula brand name has been used on the Polish market since 1967. The business has since consolidated into VRG S.A., a Krakow-headquartered capital group that also owns the Bytom and Wolczanka clothing brands, plus the jewelry and watch retailer W.KRUK.
W.W. Chan traces its cutting technique to the Shanghainese Red Gang tailors who relocated to Hong Kong mid-century, blending English suit construction with Chinese hand-finishing since 1952. Padding, canvassing and buttonholes are still done by hand on a single straight machine per garment.
Best for Full hand-canvassed suits in the Shanghainese tailoring lineage
