Annabel The Shop

Annabel DeGroot opened Annabel The Shop on Main Street in Sag Harbor in May 2023, aged twenty-six. The Sag Harbor Express reported the opening and quoted her on the buying, which she had done herself across thirty to forty labels. She had spent the better part of a year thinking about the shop before signing for the space. Her stated aim was a mix of sustainable and women-owned brands at prices below the Hamptons norm, so that a wider range of customers could buy something. The stock at opening ran from crocheted tops to pinstriped jackets, with strappy heels beside combat boots. Candles, glassware, beach towels, decorative matches, photography books filled the gaps between the racks. DeGroot told the paper she had to persuade suppliers by email that a new shop in Sag Harbor was worth shipping to. The business has since added a second Hamptons address at 2442 Montauk Highway in Bridgehampton and a third in San Francisco. Sag Harbor remains at 150 Main Street. The buying still runs to independent designers and female-founded labels, which is how the shop describes its own collection.
