What Apostolidis Ceramics (En Sifno) is known for
Giannis Apostolidis, third generation of a Sifnos potting family, works the wheel at his En Sifno workshop in Leivadas on the road from Kamares to Apollonia. The workshop turns out earthen cooking vessels and everyday plates and mugs alongside decorative pieces. A second showroom stands on the central shopping street of Platis Gialos.
Giannis Apostolidis throws and fires traditional Sifnos pottery at his En Sifno workshop in the area of Leivadas, on the central road from Kamares to Apollonia. The family line runs back to the end of 1800, when the first Giannis Apostolidis worked as a potter on the island. His son Simos Apostolidis apprenticed at nine with Giorgos Venikouas on Herronisos. Later he followed his uncle Apostolos Fyssas to Syros. In 1936 Simos moved to Halandri in Attica for four years, working at the workshops of Nikos Toulis and Alekos Kardiakos before returning to Sifnos. The present Giannis, named after his grandfather, represents the third generation and is already passing the craft to his younger son Simos. The shelves hold earthen cooking vessels alongside plates and mugs. Decorative and thematic pieces stand beside them. Visitors can watch the wheel at work and follow every phase of manufacture. They then choose a piece with the potter's help. A second En Sifno showroom stands on the central shopping street of Platis Gialos, where the workshop's summer exhibitions are also shown.
