Clove & Creek began in 2015 as a series of pop-up markets in the Catskills, hosted by local restaurants. Those evenings showed handmade goods by friends and neighbours of founders Scott Neild and Michael Cook. The first permanent store followed at 73 Broadway in Kingston, New York. The second opened at 613 Warren Street in Hudson, in a double-fronted building dating to 1880 on Hudson's mile of independent shops. A third shop opened at 353 Commercial Street in Provincetown, Massachusetts, and runs on a seasonal calendar. Neild came to shopkeeping from musical theatre and event planning. He told TOAST Magazine in 2023 that shopping at a small business should be an experience and that staff need to know the story behind everything on the shelves. The stock blends new and heritage goods chosen to be natural and functional. It runs from kitchen and scullery pieces to bedding and rugs, and from apothecary items to books and vintage finds. Clothing for women and men is the newest addition, and the company also offers interior design services. Makers from the Hudson Valley and Catskills are the recurring thread, and the owners designed the store interiors themselves.
