What Dédalo Arte y Artesanía is known for

More than 30 years ago the first concept store for craft and contemporary design in Lima opened its doors, and Dédalo remains the place where that proposal gathers. The house occupies a mansion at Av. Sáenz Peña 295 in Barranco and shows the work of more than 700 artists selected by its founder, María Elena Fernández. Its rooms hold signature pieces and Peruvian handicrafts, ready-to-wear fashion and accessories. Jewellery and objects for the home follow, with a section for children. The goods come from independent brands, Peruvian designers and recognised artists, and many are made by hand. A temporary exhibition hall, SED, is run as a white cube so that works can be seen without interference. Its programme of solo and group shows is chosen each year by its director Paloma Lores. Dédalo Café serves on a large terrace watched over by an old ficus tree. It pairs coffee and kitchen with the art on the walls. Shoppers who cannot visit are offered a personal shopper service through WhatsApp, and an online store carries a selection of the pieces. The house describes itself as a tireless bet on innovation and quality, with originality, for anyone looking for an object that surprises and identifies them.
