Great River Brewery

Great River Brewery is a brewery and taproom on East 2nd Street in Davenport, Iowa, at the corner of 2nd Street and Iowa Street in the Motor Row neighborhood. The company began in Iowa City before moving its brewing to Davenport. Owner Scott Florence also runs the neighboring Streets of Italy pizza. On April 30, 2019 the Mississippi River crested at 22.7 feet and burst through the sand-filled HESCO barriers protecting downtown. Water broke through the windows and filled the brewery within fifteen minutes. Plumbing and sewer lines backed up, the patio flooded, and the business closed. The Downtown Davenport Partnership put the flood's cost to the district at more than 30 million dollars in revenue and wages. Florence kept the goal of reopening through four years of repairs. In September 2023 KWQC reported that Great River would return in January 2024 with more standing room and more space for guests as well as additions to the menu. Kyle Carter of the Downtown Davenport Partnership called it the missing piece of the district. John McDermott of the Raccoon Motel described it as the last business to come back since the flood.
