What Jamin Puech is known for

Isabelle Puech and Benoit Jamin began making bags in Paris in 1989, and opened their first boutique at 61 rue d'Hauteville in 1996. The work runs on beadwork, embroidery, cut leather and crocheted raffia. Three bags entered the collections of the Palais Galliera in 2011. Liva Ramanandraibe of IBELIV took over as artistic director in 2025.

Isabelle Puech and Benoit Jamin began working together in Paris in 1989, out of theatre, fashion and a habit of experiment. Hyeres brought them wider attention in 1991, and the bag became the field they kept returning to. They made accessories for Karl Lagerfeld at Chanel while their own house found its language. By 1993 the bags were at Le Bon Marche, Bergdorf Goodman and Barneys. The first Paris boutique opened in 1996 in a former stationery shop at 61 rue d'Hauteville, and New York followed on Mott Street in 1998. Omotesando opened in 2001, rue Cambon in 2007, and Osaka in 2008. The work entered museums along the way. Jamin Puech took part in Le Cas du Sac at Les Arts Decoratifs in 2004, and in 2011 three bags dating from around 2007 entered the collections of the Palais Galliera. A 2014 biography of the house records nine boutiques and a network of around 250 stockists. Method matters more than category here. Beads and sequins are tried on a sample before the silhouette is settled, leather is cut so that seams read as drawing, and raffia grows into volume through crochet. Embroidery is worked in India and raffia in Madagascar. Liva Ramanandraibe, the Malagasy founder of IBELIV, took over the house in 2025 as artistic director. His experience of raffia and of working with artisans meets the freedom of the founders.
