Kronotrop Coffee

Kronotrop began in 2012 as a modest coffee shop in Galatasaray, on the Beyoglu side of Istanbul. Specialty coffee had barely reached Turkey at the time. The first customers were committed coffee drinkers, and the company grew from that base. It now runs 35 branches across several Turkish cities with a team of more than 300 people. The Cihangir shop is one of those branches. It appears on the company's own store map beside the Suadiye, Caddebostan and Emaar Square locations. Kronotrop roasts single-origin lots such as a washed Chiapas from Mexico and a natural Korcha from Ethiopia. A darker roast has been added for drinkers who want more body. The online shop sells whole-bean coffee and brewing equipment, and subscriptions ship free. A set of brewing guides walks through filter coffee and espresso, then French press, moka pot, Hario V60, Aeropress and Turkish coffee. A short quiz on the site matches a customer to a coffee by taste. The company also runs a wholesale arm for cafes and restaurants. It describes its baristas as the people who carry the coffee culture in each shop, and it invites customers to talk with them.
