What Mori Chazeria is known for
Matcha ceremonies and Japanese breakfast tastings from a certified tea sommelier who trained on a Japanese tea farm, at her own Paraíso tea house.
Patricia Akemi, a certified tea sommelier who interned on a tea farm in Japan, and her husband Rodrigo Moribe opened Mori Chazeria in São Paulo's Paraíso neighborhood in August 2021, building the business around a 2018 trip Akemi took through Japan, China and Korea — grape harvesting, cooking classes, a tea ceremony, and a business fair in Shanghai among the stops. Reading Okakura Kakuzo's The Book of Tea, the classic text on Japanese tea ceremony and its place in Japanese culture, was another direct influence on what she decided to build.
The house runs matcha ceremonies, tasting workshops, and pairings with sweets and chocolate, alongside a recurring ASAGOHAN event recreating a full traditional Japanese breakfast. Its retail range spans green, black and oolong tea, rooibos and other infusions, sold alongside teapots, ceramics, cups and cold-brew equipment through its own online shop and the Paraíso storefront.
"Mori," the founders' own account explains, was built specifically to spread Asian culture and tea appreciation in Brazil — a mission that shows up less in any single signature blend than in the recurring ceremonies and workshops built to walk a visitor through the ritual itself, not just sell them a tin to take home.
