Nomad Coffee

Nomad Coffee was founded in 2011 by Jordi Mestre, who started the operation with a mobile coffee cart working London's street markets before bringing the business to Barcelona. That mobile-cart origin eventually gave way to a fixed home base: Nomad Coffee Lab, opened in Poblenou around 2014-15, in the Barcelona neighborhood known for its shift from industrial use to a creative and tech hub.

Nomad has been a certified B Corp since 2023, and that same year it launched what it markets as Spain's first specialty instant coffee — a category most specialty roasters have avoided as beneath the standards of pour-over or espresso, but one Nomad treated as worth solving to specialty standards rather than skipping.

Going from a London market cart to a Poblenou lab to a national first in specialty instant coffee traces a specific, unusual path: street-level, low-overhead beginnings scaling into a fixed operation experimental enough to enter a product category most of the industry considers a compromise. For Barcelona, Nomad's Poblenou lab is the fixed endpoint of a mobile-cart start twelve years earlier.
