Poljoprivredna zadruga Postira (Postira Cooperative)

Poljoprivredna zadruga Postira is the agricultural cooperative of Postira, a village on the island of Brač. It was founded in 1945. Its office stands at Strančica 2, and the cooperative is run by general manager Petra Matulić. Olive oil is the core product. The cooperative's site states that Postira produces more food per head than any other Adriatic island, with an annual output of 50 to 100 tons of olive oil. In May 2021 its Postirska oblica extra-virgin oil won a gold medal at the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition in New York. The cooperative is working on an original product of the island label. The label is meant to guarantee organic or integrated growing methods along with protected geographical indications and traditional preparation. Very little of what the island makes could be bought on the island itself. In response the cooperative opened an Etno Shop to show its local foods. Its souvenir shop sells handicrafts from Postira makers alongside its own virgin olive oil. With the Vladimir Nazor elementary school in Postira it is developing a garden school and a school cooperative to pass the culture of farming to the young. Products are sold through the cooperative's webshop and directly in the village. The cooperative corresponds in English as well as Croatian.
