Resm Jewelry

Resm is an Azerbaijani jewellery brand founded in Baku by Rasmina Gurbatova, who set it up in 2011 while still working full time at the World Bank and developing her products in the evenings. The name means picture in Azerbaijani, and the idea was jewellery that carries a story. Gurbatova had first considered textiles as a way of translating national ornaments into new forms. The turning point was a pendant based on the border of an Ajima carpet, which showed her that enamel suited the purpose. Rings and earrings, along with bracelets and pendants, carry small scenes drawn from ancient symbols. Recent collections have taken their patterns from the carpets of the region and from the Gobustan rock petroglyphs. Each piece comes with a certificate that explains the motif it carries. Gurbatova comes from a finance background and describes herself as a reluctant jeweller whose real interest is the history of her country and the legends behind it. She runs a team of seven while still making jewellery herself. Baku magazine profiled the brand and its founder in June 2017, and the piece remains the fullest public account of how the house came about.
