What Talwar Jewellery House is known for

Talwar Jewellery House opened in Chandigarh in 1993, carrying forward a family jewellery trade that reached the city in 1954. From SCF 13, Sector 22D it sells gold and diamond jewellery designed and produced in its own workshops. A heritage line handcrafted in Rajasthan brings rubies and emeralds alongside pearls and meenakari enamel work.

The Talwar story begins in the mid-1940s, when bench jeweller Dina Nath Talwar moved back to Punjab from Burma at the outset of the Second World War. After Indian independence, the new city of Chandigarh was announced to replace the lost capital of Punjab. In 1954 Dina Nath Talwar moved to the young city with his son Kailash Chand Talwar and two brothers. In 1993 Kailash Chand Talwar and his son Sandeep Talwar opened Talwar Jewellery House, which now trades from SCF 13 in Sector 22D. The firm designs and produces its range in its own workshops. Individual pieces are built around rare natural-coloured diamonds, unusual coloured gemstones or pearls. Gold is the precious metal used throughout the jewellery, chosen for the way it complements a diamond or a gemstone. A heritage collection is handcrafted by artisans in Rajasthan. It features rubies and emeralds alongside pearls and elaborate meenakari enamel work. The house invites shoppers to look closely at colour and enamel and at the arrangement of stones. Questions about the materials and care of each design are welcomed. Store visits can be arranged by appointment, and the family counts five generations in the jewellery trade across more than 100 years.
