ViCAFE was founded in 2010 by Christian Forrer and Kurt Lambert and became B Corp certified in 2024, meeting the third-party standard for social and environmental accountability roughly a decade and a half into operating. The roastery employs two certified Q Graders, the industry credential for evaluating green coffee quality to a standardized international protocol, giving its cupping and sourcing decisions a formal technical basis rather than relying on taste alone.

That technical grounding shows in ViCAFE's longest-running sourcing relationship: more than ten years developing microlots with Finca Los Nogales in Colombia, a single named farm rather than a rotating list of origin countries. The roastery's technical credentials extend to the roasting side as well — its head roaster holds the title of Swiss Roasting Champion for 2026.

Between the Q Graders evaluating green coffee, a decade-plus relationship with one named Colombian farm, and a reigning national roasting champion running production, ViCAFE's credentials sit at multiple points along the chain from farm to roaster rather than concentrated in one role.
