Mumbai Shopping Route — Fort Specialists and the Marine Lines Counter

This is a two-zone day, with one honest walk and one short transfer. Do not bolt Bandra onto the end. Fort and Kala Ghoda already contain enough decisions; Marine Lines is where perishable buying belongs after them. Check each house’s current hours before leaving, especially on public holidays.

Morning: P. M. Road to Flora Fountain

Begin at The Bombay Store, Western India House on Sir P. M. Road. Give the broad edit a narrow brief—perhaps one textile category or one household material—and ask for maker and production place. This keeps a national assortment from swallowing the morning.

Continue east toward D. N. Road for Chimanlals at A-2 Taj Building, 210 D. N. Road, by Wallace Street. Paper should come before food and before the bag becomes crowded. Carry a rigid folder, inspect print and stock, and let the shop pack sheets flat.

From D. N. Road, work back toward Flora Fountain and enter Kitab Khana at 45/47 Mahatma Gandhi Road, ground floor of Somaiya Bhavan. The useful stop is not a general browse. Give a bookseller a subject, publisher or language and make a short stack. Weight-test large art and architecture books before committing.

Midday: Flora Fountain into Kala Ghoda

Walk south into Kala Ghoda for Bombay Shirt Company, No. 3 on the ground floor of Sassoon Building in the Fabindia lane. A real fitting needs unhurried attention. If commissioning, leave at least forty-five minutes and confirm delivery and alteration terms before the order is closed.

Finish the walking sequence at Bombay Sweet Shop, Seksaria Chambers, 139 Nagindas Master Road. Use the counter as a tasting stop now, not the day’s final gift purchase, unless the staff confirms your selection can tolerate the remaining time. A small mixed box is enough to understand how the shop translates familiar mithai.

The Fort-to-Kala Ghoda sequence is compact but street conditions, crossings and heat can slow it. It is better to make five exact stops than to turn the district into a brand census.

Late afternoon: Marine Lines

Transfer to Marine Lines rather than pretending the next leg is contiguous. Parsi Dairy Farm is at 261/63 Shamaldas Gandhi Marg. Make this the last purchase if dairy or fresh sweets are involved. Ask what was produced that day, what needs refrigeration and what will remain sound through the journey back.

There is no responsible “one more neighbourhood” after a perishable counter. Return with the food, notes and order records intact. Bandra deserves a different half-day, but its strongest locations could not be confirmed precisely enough for this route.

Read the Mumbai buyer’s guide before ordering cloth or packing food, and the main Mumbai city page for the argument behind the sequence. For another city, restart at the ORBIS city index rather than splicing two unrelated routes together.
