Contact the label before travelling to the appointment address. Describe the garment or collection you want to see and ask which sizes are available to try. A runway image is a useful starting point, but it does not tell you what will be present for your visit.

When trying a structured piece, look at how it moves as well as how it appears when standing still. Check the shoulder and sleeve fit in the position you would normally wear it. Ask about the fabric of the exact garment and its care requirements. A label's use of traditional techniques across its work does not establish how every individual piece was made.

Choose the direct appointment if discussing the designer's work is part of the purchase. If a stockist is more convenient, ask it about the particular collection before setting out. The two routes need not offer the same selection.

Start with the recipient's tastes. A mixed box is useful when people want to try different pieces; a more focused selection makes sense when you know what they enjoy. Ask what is inside the exact assortment rather than judging it by the box or the photograph.
