Short answers for the person who has already arrived and is standing on Bahnhofplatz.

- A souvenir that is an object — Matterland (Bahnhofstrasse 24) for wood, music boxes, the Blacknose. Zer ToolBox (Spissstrasse 23) for a cowbell that is hardware. Fernanda’s (39) or Swiss Artisans (72) for Swiss-made design and jewellery. WEGA (29) for mixed souvenirs and books in the basement.
- A watch conversation — Stäuble (11), Robert (25), or Schindler (the knot at 5 / 14 / 15). Brand rooms (Hublot 27, NORQAIN 5, TAG/Zenith 14, Bucherer 6) if you already know the house. Hamilton × Air Zermatt on Hofmattstrasse for the local partnership.

- Climbing / touring kit — Mountain Shop (Bahnhofstrasse 28), since 2011, Dynafit competence centre.
- Fashion — Bijou les Boutiques (7a). Sportina (Bodmenstrasse 14, since 1956). Davis (8). Papermoon for children.
How do I move?
On foot. Electric taxis and luggage carts only. Bahnhofstrasse is about five hundred metres; Hofmattstrasse, Spissstrasse, Metzggasse, Kirchstrasse, Bodmenstrasse, Riedstrasse and Luchernstrasse are the useful side lanes. A practical ninety-minute walk follows Bahnhofstrasse in number order, then uses those side lanes without unnecessary backtracking.
What is local vs a brand door?
Local village house: the business has a Zermatt or long-standing Swiss identity and earns fuller local treatment.
Brand door: the house originates elsewhere; its Zermatt branch is useful without being given an invented Valais origin story.
Opening hours and shoulder season
Most doors close for lunch, often from 12:00 to 14:00. Many open later or close one day on Sunday. In May and November, and parts of early June or late October, brand rooms often reduce hours or close for staff holidays. Bakeries and Migros remain the most reliable anchors; confirm every specialist stop on the day.
Altitude shops
Gornergrat (about 3,100 m) and Klein Matterhorn / Matterhorn Glacier Paradise (about 3,883 m) have watch, chocolate and souvenir counters. They are mountain-station retail, not part of the village street sequence.
What makes the guide useful
The useful distinction is between village houses, resort branches and high-altitude counters. Physical address, walking order, seasonality and branch identity matter as much as the name above the door, especially in a compact resort where several retail systems overlap.
