Desigual was founded in 1984 by Thomas Meyer, who was born in Germany, is of Swiss origin, and has lived in Spain since childhood. The brand's origin point was 1983, when Meyer designed a signature jacket patchworked from scraps of second-hand denim - the idea reportedly suggested in part by Spanish filmmaker Isabel Coixet, who is also credited with proposing the Desigual name. In 1986 the company opened its first standalone store in the harbor of Ibiza, debuting a logo depicting a naked man and woman holding hands, designed by artist Peret, alongside the tagline 'no es lo mismo' ('it's not the same'). Meyer relocated to Barcelona in 1992, where the company's first full collections took shape and where it remains headquartered today. In 2011 Desigual began a design collaboration with French couturier Christian Lacroix. The brand is now known internationally for its saturated colors, mixed prints and patchwork silhouettes.

Torras is a Spanish clothing label founded in 1951, known for leather garments and combinations of leather with knitwear. It sells designs for men and women through its online shop and other retailers. A 2024 report describes production suppliers in several countries following its 2020 insolvency, so manufacture should be checked garment by garment.
Best for Leather jackets and leather-knit clothing
Torras began in 1951 with knitwear made by Josefa Torras and her son Joan Serra in Caldes de Montbui. Leather later became central to the label, including garments combining leather with knitted sections. Its present range is aimed at men and women, with jackets providing a clear starting point for browsing. The brand’s history does not mean that every garment is still produced in its original town. A November 2024 report in The New Barcelona Post describes a changed business after the company’s 2020 insolvency. Sonia Caballero bought the brand and retained design while outsourcing production and licensing sales in other markets. The report names workshops in Spain as well as suppliers in several other countries. Country of manufacture therefore needs to be checked on the individual garment rather than inferred from the Spanish brand name. The same report describes sales through the online shop and independent retailers, not a return to a network of company-owned boutiques. For a purchase, compare the garment’s material and sizing information with its own origin label.
