What Cavour is known for
Cavour sells tailored menswear through its Oslo shops and online store, with a flagship at Vikaterrassen. The range includes full-canvas suits alongside outerwear and men's accessories. Its flagship has a made-to-measure room, while the separate Cavour Market shop in Grünerløkka carries pieces from past collections.
Cavour was established in 2016 by the brothers Richard and Sebastian Scharnke, both of whom had spent years in the menswear trade beforehand. The problem they set out to solve was a specific one. Fast fashion sat at one end of the market and bespoke tailoring sat at the other, priced beyond most people. Their answer was ready-to-wear suiting built to offer the fit that had previously had to be commissioned.
What comes out of that is a hybrid of Italian craftsmanship and Scandinavian restraint. Fabrics are chosen before silhouettes. The cloth is premium and the detailing hand-finished, and the shapes are kept clear of whatever happens to be current.
The autumn and winter collections look to Norway's own cultural heritage, with a palette drawn from the Norwegian Romantic painters. Cloth runs from cashmere and wool through to technical fabrics.
The house talks about partnership rather than transaction, and its commission work bears that out. For one wedding it cut cloth from Loro Piana and Drago, taking fittings wherever the client happened to be.
