Groundwork Coffee

Groundwork Coffee builds its identity around certified organic sourcing and close control of roasting. Its direct-trade model connects the roaster with farmers and links higher coffee-quality standards to premium prices. The company says its coffee comes from smallholder farms and describes long-term partnerships at origin, giving the sourcing claim a practical structure. Roasting takes place at a 5,000-square-foot headquarters in North Hollywood and a 42,000-square-foot facility in Portland. The Portland roastery can produce more than 5,000 pounds in one shift, while the North Hollywood facility runs two 70-kilo low-emission roasters and stores more than 25 varieties of green coffee beans. Those figures make the scale legible without obscuring the agricultural relationships behind it. Groundwork also identifies Certified Organic, Directly Traded and Ethically Sourced coffee as its operating standard. Its history began with roasting from a small café on Rose Avenue, followed by cafés along the West Coast and two roasteries in Los Angeles and Portland. The current Regenerative Organic Certified coffee initiative extends that same focus from organic certification toward soil and farm systems.
