HOSOO traces its weaving business to Kyoto's Nishijin district in 1688, where patterned textiles are made from pre-dyed yarns. The process involves more than twenty stages shared among specialist craftspeople, rather than a single operation at one loom. That textile tradition now reaches beyond kimono cloth into fabrics and objects intended for use in contemporary interiors.
The Kyoto flagship makes that wider application visible through a shop offering furniture and curtains ordered using HOSOO textiles. The house presents a choice of more than 150 fabrics for this work, giving material selection a central role. Looking at a length of cloth and seeing it on furniture are related parts of the same visit.
A gallery in the building hosts textile exhibitions, while the lounge provides another setting within the flagship. The house also maintains a kimono business, although its members-only salon should not be assumed open to every visitor.
