Italian design and Italian craft share this plate, and the design houses are the ones you find on museum labels. Alessi works from Omegna on Lake Orta, while Artemide and Flos make the lamps that furnished the twentieth century. Cassina and B&B Italia make the furniture from the same Lombard towns, and Bialetti is listed for the octagonal Moka Express that sits on so many stoves. The craft side is regional and hand-painted. Ceramiche Nicola Fasano throws plates in Grottaglie, and F.lli Mari Deruta has painted Deruta tableware since 1932. Ceramiche De Simone paints in Palermo and Bitossi Ceramiche in Montelupo, while Ceramica Geometrie works modern Tuscan patterns in Chianti. Venice contributes glass from Barovier & Toso on Murano and lace from Emilia Burano, with true carnival masks from Ca' Macana. Sardinia sends the resolza knife of Coltelli Giagu in Pattada, and Florence sends the Rosso Nobile diffusers of Dr. Vranjes Firenze for the rooms all this furniture ends up in.
