Konsei

Konsei is a shibori tie-dye workshop in the Narumi district of Nagoya's Midori Ward, part of the Arimatsu-Narumi shibori tradition that has centered on this stretch of the old Tokaido road since the early Edo period. The workshop's core offering is Sekka Shibori, a snow-flower resist pattern applied to a full bolt of yukata fabric — roughly 13 meters — dyed and finished on site rather than sold as a pre-made bolt.

Alongside individual sessions, Konsei runs group tie-dye workshops for ten or more participants spanning a range of ages, and a denim-kimono option that applies Arimatsu-Narumi shibori technique to a denim garment rather than the traditional cotton yukata cloth — a contemporary variant of the resist-dye craft itself, not a garment brand in its own right. Visitors include families, couples, international travelers, and students working on festival yukata or school projects.

The workshop states it wants "everyone to feel the warmth of the handwork" of Arimatsu and Narumi shibori, and frames its offerings as expanding access to a craft technique.
