What Linvosges is known for
A Gérardmer household linen house whose story began in 1921 with Charles Prudent and the meadow-bleached linen of the Vosges, formalised as Le Linge des Vosges in 1923 and renamed Linvosges in 1931. Embroidered table and bed linen and bath collections are sold from 46 boutiques in France. The Gérardmer shop stands at 21 boulevard Adolphe Garnier.
Linvosges traces its story to 1921, when Charles Prudent passed through Gérardmer. There he discovered blanchiment sur pré, the meadow bleaching of linen for which the Vosges were known. Finding no shop that sold this linen direct from the factory, he decided to specialise in it. An advertisement in the Annales politiques et littéraires at Easter 1923 brought more than 500 orders in under a month. The company Le Linge des Vosges was formed in February 1923. Shops followed in Nice in 1924 and Cannes in 1927, with Vittel in 1928. In 1931 the firm took the name Linvosges after competitors copied its graphics and slogan. The headquarters and shop were destroyed in 1944. A new building on rue Charles de Gaulle in Gérardmer was completed in September 1950. In 1960 the firm bought La Linière de Gérardmer and turned its weaving mill at Xonrupt-Longemer into a sewing workshop. In 1966 it patented a fitted sheet with velcro corners. The workshop held the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant label from 2012 to 2017 for skills such as jour Venise and hand-guided embroidery. The MK Direct group bought Linvosges in 2007. The first foreign boutique opened in Brussels in 2022, and the house marked 100 years in 2023. Its Gérardmer boutique stands at 21 boulevard Adolphe Garnier, with a factory shop at 6 place des Déportés.
