Modernon: A Retrosexual Movement

Modernon is an Athens concept store created from the design research and collecting practice of Joe Petropoulos, an industrial designer and design-history researcher. Its official story describes a long search for emblematic objects carrying original Mid-Century Modern elements. The store translates that research into a broad vintage catalogue shaped by Mid-Century Modern and Bauhaus design. Furniture categories include seating and storage alongside tables. Lighting ranges from ceiling and floor lamps to illuminated signs, while electronics cover audio equipment and clocks as well as televisions. Telephones and cameras appear beside them. Smaller objects add tableware and office pieces as well as toys. Sporting equipment and decorative props widen the assortment. This mixture is important because it places canonical furniture forms beside the ordinary technologies and domestic objects that carried modern design into daily life. Modernon's Projects and Stories sections extend the shop beyond transactions by showing how objects are interpreted and placed.
