WAJD is Arabic for a state of profound ecstasy, and the house is explicit that it chose the word as a name rather than as a description. It shares a root with the Sufi term for the rapture that arrives in the presence of the divine.

The argument for the house is geographic before it is anything else. Qatar has a long relationship with fragrance through oud and bakhoor and attar, and WAJD positions itself inside that tradition rather than as something merely inspired by it. Every bottle is made in Qatar, and the house treats that as the weight its fragrances carry.

The range is deliberately small. Three fragrances are offered at a single concentration of 40 per cent Extrait de Parfum, which the house states is the highest available in commercial perfumery, and nothing else is made alongside them.

Each is built for the Gulf climate, where a lighter concentration evaporates before it has said anything at all. LAYL is the night scent. SABAH belongs to the hour before morning, and BARR takes the desert as its subject. The house describes its own register as the opposite of loud, made for people who would rather be remembered than noticed when they leave a room.
