Workshop Nuriton

Workshop Nuriton is a small Okinawa studio working in two adjoining crafts, Ryukyu lacquerware and woodworking, based at Nakaza in Yaese Town, Shimajiri District — a rural district south of Naha, distinct from the Kokusai-dori tourist-shop corridor most Ryukyu lacquerware retail is concentrated in. The workshop's stated aim is to carry forward inherited Ryukyu lacquer technique while producing pieces suited to how people actually live now, rather than reproducing museum-piece forms unchanged.

Its lacquer output covers dishes, bowls, and small accessories finished in the Ryukyu tradition's techniques, while its woodworking side — wooden vessels, spoons, forks, and other functional tableware — is sold alongside the lacquerware as a complementary daily-use line from the same hands. The studio maintains an active public presence through retail partnerships and appearances at organized craft events, including Craft Fair Okinawa, rather than operating a single fixed storefront.

Ryukyu lacquerware already has a foothold in the registry through an Itoman/Kokusai-dori specialist; Nuriton adds a different kind of primary source — a working studio-scale maker in the southern Okinawa countryside rather than the capital's shopping district — genuinely widening rather than duplicating that coverage. No founding date is published on the workshop's own site, so none is claimed here.
