Cape Town Shopping Route — City Bowl Benches and a Woodstock Clay Detour

Build this as one City Bowl walk and two deliberate extensions. Check current hours, and contact studios when the purchase requires a fitting, commission or collection. Cape Town’s hills, weather and traffic punish an itinerary that mistakes a short map distance for spare attention.

City Bowl: Bree, Long, Wale and Roeland

Begin at Dear Rae, 164 Bree Street, while daylight is clean and the bench team can discuss a commission. Confirm size, metal, setting, lead time and repair before moving south-east.

Walk to Clarke’s Bookshop, 199 Long Street. Give the bookseller a Southern African subject and compare a new reference, a reading copy and an older edition if the shelf allows. Buy heavy books only after deciding whether shipping is wiser.

Continue to Honest Chocolate, 64A Wale Street, for tasting rather than bulk buying. Record which plain slab best shows the cacao and return near the end if the day is hot.

Waterfront extension

PICHULIK is at Shop 6202, upstairs at the V&A Waterfront, 19 Dock Road. Treat it as a separate retail visit, not proof that the atelier sits inside the mall. Inspect rope construction and ask what the Cape Town workshop can refurbish.

Woodstock studio

Vorster & Braye, 42 Frere Street, Woodstock, is the making-focused half-day. The public studio lets the buyer connect a finished cup or planter to throwing, slip casting or jiggering. Check opening hours, especially Friday, and arrange packing before choosing several pieces.
