Scavini places trousers at the centre of its Paris tailoring offer, working from the city's seventh arrondissement. Smuggler sells tailoring through Paris and Limoges boutiques, with suits now produced across European workshops rather than only in Limoges. Valette Studio adds Pierre-François Valette's sharp-shouldered tailoring to the selection, following the designer's establishment of his own house in 2020.
What makes great tailors & sartorial houses?
This plate lists 313 shops in 68 countries. Paris has the most with 31, followed by Naples with 17. Among these shops, 86 describe made-to-order work, 8 sell online and 7 work by appointment, going by their own descriptions.
Ask how many fittings to expect: plan the first appointment early in a trip, since a garment cut for you usually needs more than one visit.
Ask what is made in the workshop: some houses cut and sew in their own rooms, while others send the work to an outside maker.
Ask about alterations later: find out whether the house adjusts its own garments when your size or the season changes.
