What Balzer is known for
Balzer has run as a pasticceria in Bergamo's lower town since 1850 and holds the license to Polenta e Osèi, the marzipan-and-sponge cake shaped like a mound of polenta topped with little birds. It also makes the Donizetti Cake, a hazelnut-and-liqueur sweet named for the Bergamo-born composer Gaetano Donizetti.
