Bohemia Gloves

Dobříš was one of Bohemia's principal glovemaking towns for more than 150 years, a craft the town's own museum still keeps an exhibition on. That production line went dark in 1992 and the local apprenticeship school followed it three years later. Bohemia Gloves is what came after: Petra Kesnerová, who entered the leather trade in 2011 through her future father-in-law's business, took over one of the country's last surviving glove workshops in Dobříš and rebuilt it as a standalone house rather than letting the craft lapse a second time. Regional press (Deník) and the workshop's own site both frame the venture in the same terms — reviving a nearly extinct domestic trade, not inventing a new one.

Production stays close to the traditional method the town was known for: kid and deerskin leather bought from Italian tanneries (a family tannery in Naples supplies part of the stock), hand-cut and hand-stitched by a small team — the workshop describes roughly four to five hours of stitching per pair — then pressed, inspected, and packaged in Dobříš. Kesnerová has been explicit in interviews that the goal is putting real Czech gloves back into daily use and teaching buyers the difference between that and cheaper synthetic imports, while warning that the trade could still die out without more support.

The result is a real, currently operating retail business, not a workshop taking B2B orders only: a working e-shop at bohemiagloves.cz sells women's, men's, driving, wedding and sport gloves (roughly 390-3,950 Kč, most models 1,950-2,650 Kč) with a 30-day exchange policy, backed by physical showrooms in Prague, Brno, Ostrava and Bratislava. That combination is what the earlier Czech search came up empty on — Prostějov turned out to be a garment town, Dobříš's own industrial-era manufacturers had left, and the one still-operating maker found there, Výroba rukavic Macka, remains B2B-only. Bohemia Gloves fills the actual gap: the same town's craft, revived, and sold direct to the public.
