Ganghwa Dolyeong Hwamunseok

This family workshop on Ganghwa Island has hand-cut and woven wanggol rush grass into hwamunseok floor mats since 1981, a craft the government has recognized with a 6th-industry certification linking its own cultivation, weaving and education programs. Beyond traditional patterned mats with butterfly and phoenix motifs, the shop weaves the same rush fiber into coasters, table runners and cushions.
