Taipei Shopping Route — Dihua craft, Zhongshan tea, Zhongxiao design
Taipei’s route is a sequence of named counters: Dihua weave and Chongqing North leaf in the morning, Zhongshan tasting tea and Yitong roast after midday, Zhongxiao design and Huashan beans in the afternoon. Shilin pastry, Songshan pineapple cake, Wanhua letterpress, and Songyan cultural retail are optional evening chapters, not fillers between Datong and Da’an. The Xinyi mall brand floor and the night-market souvenir loop are other stories. Buy the night-market craft and the design house, not the mall brand floor.
This is one central day with optional legs. Confirm hours before you ride. TOOLS to LIVEBY closes Mondays. Gao Jian Bucket Shop needs a freshness check against the closed-listing conflict. PAPERWORK is a rear building.
10:00. Dadaocheng craft loop
Begin at Gao Jian Bucket Shop, No. 204, Sec. 1, Dihua St., Datong. Buy a market bag or reed basket by use. Feel the weave. Ask temple versus market. Confirm the door is open. Cash-only style on the ORBIS card. Do not buy a miniature ornament as proof of the walk.
Walk toward Lin Hua Tai Tea Co. at No. 193, Sec. 2, Chongqing N. Rd. Choose one open-tin style: Dong Ding, Pouchong, or Oriental Beauty. Ask roast and brew ratio. Seal the bag before you add metal or dye.
If metal is on the list, continue to Bomb Metal & Fry Jewelry at No. 27, Ln. 1, Sec. 2, Chengde Rd. Ask metal and technique. One piece with a maker conversation. If dye talk is the errand instead, MOGU / Booday at No. 18, Ln. 25, Nanjing W. Rd. Ask fibre and dye method. Do not chain both metal and a full wardrobe onto the tea hour unless time is generous.
12:30. Zhongshan tea and roast
Ride or walk to Wang De Chuan, No. 95, Sec. 1, Zhongshan N. Rd. Prefer the Main Store. Book tasting if you want time (house phone on the site). Compare one leaf against what you bought at Lin Hua Tai rather than stacking gift boxes. Refuse the airport branch as a substitute for this door.
Continue to Fika Fika Cafe at No. 33, Yitong St. Capri Blond as the light-roast argument. Ask blend versus single origin. Buy a bag for the kettle you own. If music was planned, Waiting Room at No. 1, Aly. 10, Ln. 40, Chang’an W. Rd. is nearby; confirm open day and buy one local release or art book. Lunch can sit between tea and roast. Do not shop a mall food court as if it were craft.
15:00. Zhongxiao design and Huashan roast
Move to Zhongxiao for desk and paper. Plain Stationery & Homeware at No. 16-4, Ln. 56, Sec. 1, Xinsheng S. Rd. for one notebook or home object. moom bookshop at No. 16, Aly. 8, Ln. 251, Sec. 3, Zhongxiao E. Rd. for one photobook with a named publisher. Simple Kaffa at No. 27, Sec. 2, Zhongxiao E. Rd. for roast date and a Huashan bag if Fika Fika did not already close the coffee errand. Compare light roast across the two houses only if you still lack a noun.
If brass tools were the brief and it is not Monday, ride to TOOLS to LIVEBY at No. 15, Aly. 72, Leli Rd. Separate house design from curated stock. One tool. Do not add Leli, moom, and a full stationery mall crawl to the same hour.
TenRen Tea at No. 174, Sec. 3, Zhongxiao E. Rd. is a a secondary local pointer pointer only. Skip it unless you already know the grade and need convenience.
17:00. One evening chapter (choose one)
Do not chain all four. Pick the noun you still lack.
Optional made-to-order on another day: Chenjingkai Office at No. 134, Tong’an St., or Tom Tailor at No. 90, Bo’ai Rd. Do not glue fittings onto this walking day. Sanmin Books at No. 61, Sec. 1, Chongqing S. Rd. can replace Songyan if scholarship is the evening noun.
Timing notes
MRT Blue and Green lines keep Datong, Zhongshan, and Da’an honest. Heat and rain punish soft paper; pack letterpress flat and seal tea before pastry. Gao Jian first, tea second, metal or dye third in the morning bag order. Pastry last in the evening so sugar does not coat brass and paper. Confirm TOOLS Monday closed. Confirm Gao Jian open. Confirm PAPERWORK rear-building hours. Confirm Waiting Room open day.
Bag order and refusal checkpoints
Pack in this order when the day works: sealed tea, brass or jewelry wrapped, letterpress flat, photobook spine protected, market bag outside, pastry last. Soft clothing from MOGU goes in a separate pouch so dye talk does not share grease with cake.
At each door, run one refusal check. At Gao Jian: refuse the miniature ornament. At Lin Hua Tai: refuse the ribbon tin without a leaf name. At Wang De Chuan: refuse the airport branch as flagship. At Fika Fika / Simple Kaffa: refuse the selfie as tasting note. At TOOLS: refuse the tote that only says stationery. At PAPERWORK: refuse the postcard without press talk. At Chia Te: refuse the queue photograph as quality proof. At TenRen: refuse letting scale define Taipei tea. At Songyan: refuse the mall tea gift set. At Tom Tailor: refuse the German-chain confusion.
What to skip between legs
Do not detour into Xinyi department-store tea counters between Datong and Zhongshan. Do not ride to every Wang De Chuan branch. Do not treat night-market keyrings as metal craft after Bomb Metal. Do not add Shilin, Songshan, Wanhua, and Songyan to the same evening. Do not schedule shoe or suit fittings as filler between coffee stops. Do not let TenRen rewrite a day that began on Dihua.
Three compressions of the same route
With ninety minutes: Gao Jian, Lin Hua Tai, one sealed bag of tea. Stop.
With half a day: add Wang De Chuan and one of Fika Fika or Simple Kaffa, plus one design door (Plain, moom, or TOOLS if open). Stop.
With a full day: keep the morning craft loop and Zhongshan/Zhongxiao afternoon, then one evening chapter only. Made-to-order stays another calendar.
Rain plan and Monday plan
If rain is heavy, shorten the Dihua outdoor stretch: Gao Jian and Lin Hua Tai only, then MRT to Wang De Chuan. Soft paper waits for a dry hour at Plain or PAPERWORK. If the day is Monday, drop TOOLS to LIVEBY and keep Plain, moom, or PAPERWORK for the desk noun. If Gao Jian is closed on your check, keep Lin Hua Tai and Bomb Metal or MOGU rather than inventing a souvenir stall substitute. The route survives missing doors when the remaining counters still answer nouns.
The night market will still be there when you are done. Use it to eat. The mall brand floor does not need your morning.
