Ermenegildo Zegna founded his wool mill in Trivero, in the Biella Alps, in 1910 with a vertical ambition rare then and now: control everything from fiber to fabric. The Lanificio still weaves in Trivero, buying the world's finest wool clips — its trophies for record-fine merino bales are an industry institution — and supplying not only its own house but much of high tailoring worldwide. The founder also planted the Oasi Zegna, a vast reforested mountain park above the mill, environmental philanthropy decades before the term. The clothing house built on the mill became Italy's leading menswear group; its current 'luxury leisurewear' direction, all soft tailoring and technical-natural fabrics, rests on fabric authority no competitor matches.
